The Mississippi Forestry Commission, by request of the Jones County Board of Supervisors, has issued a burn ban for Jones County. That means outdoor burning of any kind is prohibited. The ban will be in effect until conditions warrant the lifting of the ban.
Anyone found in violation of this burn ban may be subject to citations issued by the Jones County Sheriff’s Department. According to the Mississippi Forestry Commission, Section 49-19-351 of MS Code of 1972, as amended, states that any person who knowingly and willfully violates a burning ban is guilty of a misdemeanor and may be fined not less than $100 and not more than $500.
